What are We Really Fighting For

I have a question I need help on answering:
Of the three major world powers, the United States, China, and Russia-Why is it that of the three the United States is the only country that wages full all out war on terror and sends armed forces to under developed countries that could really don’t give a damn?
Maybe it’s my ignorance, but I do not see or hear of China or Russia fighting in foreign under-developed countries-a so called war on terrorism..
These people do not know or never have known about freedom. Do we really have to waste lives and spend tremendous amounts of money to help those who really don’t want any help? And the groups we have helped in the past have ended up becoming our worst enemies.
I can see and justify a war being fought for humanitarian reasons.
Could someone please explain this to me?
Is it really a war against terrorism or a war for more oil?
Haven’t any of our leaders learned from the past, that no one ever really wins a war?  When the fighting is over, we send in aide and help these countries rebuild again. And for what?
Makes you think about Korea-Vietnam-Afghanistan- Pakistan…..What did and what are we accomplishing now?
